read this I'm posting from a 4 year old HP lapdog using a wireless connection on Ubuntu 9.10 running from a live CD. It was auto detected along with the bluetooth and Just Works!

In other words, don't give up on linux :P

Hardware-wise it's an Intel 3945ABG.

I've only ever used this CD for fixing virus-ridden upfucked PCs, never networked it or used the inbuilt firefox for web gubbinry.

one one of those Avocent Mergepoint's earlier, if managed wobbly windows and shit with 16mb of video ram, plugged in my trsty old belkin usb wiffy stick and connected straight away, which oddly is more than Win7 could manage with the same setup
