thread Thebear's started well today
He tipped Copper Bleu for the 1.30, and it's come in 1st. What's more, he tipped him at 16/1, and the odds shortened to 12/1.
Each way bet at 16/1, and I have made £20 profit of a £2 bet!

AQ: what sort of present shall we buy Rupert?
permalink FFS
I didn't bother cos they were rubbish on the first day
permalink I've got my house weighing on Time for Rupert
It probably won't race that well with a house on it's back
permalink if you'd put a pony on it
then it would have had more legs and would have been faster.
permalink I bet on that, I swear I did
but Ladbrokes have no record of it. pisses.

in other news, I've just spoken to my sister on the phone. apparently my mum is worried that me and the missus are getting divorced. i've no i dea where she got this from, but apparently she's terribly worried by it all.

of course, if she'd bothered to phone me and ask...
permalink isn't it obvious?
your mum is shagging your missus behind your back
permalink and are you?
permalink not as far as i know
it'd be a hell of a way to find out!
permalink oh bollocks
Just had a call from the estate agents I'm trying to rent a house from. As I've not started work they can't get a reference from them - the copy of the contract I sent them isn't good enough as "who's to say you'll actually turn up, eh?" and a reference from my current role doesn't count as I'm working my notice (note: I'm not. I'm on a contract which ends on 31 March). So, I have to have a guarantour which comes with a £50 admin fee. Bastards.

While I was on the phone I drank a bottle of mango and passion fruit"this water" and the aftertaste tastes like the grass cuttings compost heap used to smell when they'd cut all the grass on my estate.
permalink estate agents are cheeky cunts
permalink I bought a bottle of that the other day
stupidly thinking it was orange juice.
I thought it was nice.
permalink the stuff was nice
the aftertaste was a bit of a surprise
permalink Just tell them you'll find a different flat then, there are lots to choose from
see that £50 fee dissapear
permalink I think I'll ring back
and ask if six months rent up front would do instead
permalink offer three, not six
permalink too late
Six turned out to be an excellent lubricant for the slowly turning cogs of house rental.
permalink now you've got to pray
you stay in that job for 6 months...
permalink heh, true
I'm exceedingly good at what I do, and it's a growing field, so hopefully I should be safe.
permalink better hope he doesn't get the house repossesed
.
permalink it's a letting agent
so I'd get my money back.
permalink yeah right.
Better hope the letting agent doesnt go bust too - mine did.
permalink probably more likely than landlord.
as long as this is paid to the landlord, and the contract is with the landlord then he should be ok

bet they keep their grubby mits on it though
permalink it did cross my mind
to tell them to stick it and go with the other nice house I saw, but it was £25 a month more and nowhere near as nice (exactly the same build, but the one I've gone for has a larger garden, is in a quiet cul-de-sac, has a conservatory and has been lived in by the owner up until I move in - so is done up like a proper house rather than having the same carpet and same coloured walls throughout).
permalink That's the Lucky63 fucked, I think?
Planetofsound didn't place.
permalink cowjam must've gambled
`
permalink Hang on
there's a stewards enquiry.
permalink what is this?
F1
permalink No
it's more exciting than that.
permalink Nope
Looks like they've decalred it.
Planet of Sound has not placed.
permalink Yes
If Time for Rupert wins the next race, we get most of our stake back
If he's placed we get about 60% back
If he loses, we're fucked.
permalink if i get any round pounds back
i'm taking it to the online blackjack tables...
permalink I'm square for the week now
having played everything thebear tipped except the patent.
Can't ask for much more than that, can you?
permalink not really
i think i made a profit the year before last and came out pretty square last year, that's better than i normally manage at the bookies...
permalink we'll lose
and I'll have been taught my lesson about gambling.
permalink Well we've definetely not won
Bloody BBC live text is only interested in telling us the winner, not 2nd and 3rd.
permalink viola
1 Big Buck's (R Walsh, 5-6 fav); 13 Time For Rupert (W Kennedy, 16-1 )

http://news.bbc.co.uk/...
permalink i seem to have got £11.08 from the £20 I placed
mind you, there's three more tomorrow that could make a big profit
permalink I've got £6.99 back on a £12.80 stake for the lucky 63
so I've lost £5.81.
However, I made a further £4 on Time for Rupert in a straight bet, so I'm not too unhappy.
permalink yep, sounds about right
i think i might have got different odds for TF Rupert, but that looks right. i'll let it roll onto the other horses he tipped...
permalink Now I have to wait the tytpical 20 minutes for william hill
to update their systems to see how the bet's shaken out.

Advice to hive mind: never use william hill online. The site is totally counterintuitive and shoddy. Makes it hard to enjoy.
permalink I don't get on with bet365's site at all
I have no idea if it's because I'm unused to placing bets or because it's a poorly laid out site
permalink I think both of these problems
apply to me at William Hill.
Why isn't there a function for seeing all your outstanding bets and following the results easily?
permalink I know diddly about betting
but the cynical side of me says it's made purposely difficult so you don't know. The more confused you are the more chance of you not claiming your winnings?
permalink Well getting the winnings out was easy
I've nearly doubled my money so far, so I am out...
permalink 2nd place
ye of little faith. let's see how that all shakes out.
permalink I'm on the train
given that i did Rupert's patent and his Lucky 63, at the cost he prescribed (£1 e/w and 25p e/w respectively) how much did I lose?

M

[Edit - I just signed a post by mistake?]
permalink you need flan's magic calculator
i can't remember what it is...
permalink If you got the odds that rup's posted
You should have a £27 return, so a £13 profit om the patent.
You'll have lost about £12.80 on the Lucky 63.
http://www.free-bet-ca...
permalink I spent £46
so that cannot be right!

I also didn't get his odds, I went with starting odds.
permalink I have sneakily editted to account for both bets
I have no clue what the starting odds were so you're on your own now.
permalink My magic calculator ?
*intrigued*
permalink Does it run with out batteries when hold under a light source?
permalink oh, it was JoS, not you
my apologies
permalink I can't really claim ownership
it's always in the top 3 on google for any combination of the words "bet" and "claculator"
permalink well, you know, it's, well,
permalink woohoo
been out all day, come back to find that for today I put down a tenner in total, and got back £30 - I had a 20p lucky15 on thebears four picks

up £21.60 on the week
