it would be Ok if his "state visit" was like a normal one for the head of a small countrycouple of meeting with the FCO, maybe a visit to number 10, possibly a speech in Parliament somewhere and big shiny dinner at the Palace.

I do not know what this money is being spent on, it isbecause he intends on touring the country to "meet" the faithful. We'll be picking up the bill for that. I can't help but feel that the catholic church should be picking up that bill? I'd bet that Jacob Zuma's recent State Visit (and he's the head of a large nation) cost us a fraction of that.
So, he is going to meet people he wants to meet and people who want to meet him.
